Customer Use Case

Workforce, assets and expenses, connected in one plan.

Topgolf Callaway Brands replaced a cost center tool it had outgrown. SAP EPM expense planning now runs as three connected models on SAP Analytics Cloud, covering employee costs, capital assets and department expenses.

The journey

Six years from a tool they had outgrown

The move to SAP Analytics Cloud started in 2019, to replace an outdated cost center expense planning system. The platform was in place. What it did not yet have was a set of models the whole company could plan in.

SimpleFi came in after a meeting at SAPinsider Las Vegas in 2023, first to review the enterprise-wide planning systems and processes and recommend a path, then in 2024 to build it. The project finished on time and on budget, and adoption spread across the company over the following twelve months.

What was built

Three models that feed one SAP EPM expense planning hub

Each model does one job, and the hub consolidates them. That is what makes a forecast come out of the same place the detail was entered.

  • WorkforceEmployee costs at individual headcount level, existing staff plus planned hires, driven by locale, employment type and benefit assumptions
  • AssetsDepreciation and amortization from current and planned assets, including capital expenditure and cloud software implementations
  • Hub expensesDepartment expense planning by cost center and cost element, consolidating P&L expense from every model
  • ReportingMulticurrency planning and reporting, with a landing page that navigates between models

How people use it

Fully web, fully Excel, or any mix of the two

Finance teams do not all work the same way, so the models do not insist. Reporting runs through web stories, a flat file export, or Excel add-in tables and formulas. Input works the same four ways, and the choice of one does not constrain the other.

The Excel integration goes further than a export. SAP.GETDATA pulls booked values into an existing report and refreshes it in place, and SAP.SETDATA writes back, which turns a familiar spreadsheet into a mass upload path rather than something finance has to abandon.

“SimpleFi helped us turn the SAC tool into a true solution meeting our needs.”
